1. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

Duration: 5-Years (10 Semesters) + 01 year clinical clerkship

Goals of the Program:

The purposes of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program are to prepare physical therapists who:

  1. Our highly qualified and competent providers of physical therapy care.
  2. Serve the community as leaders with professional skills.
  3. Conduct research and incorporate research findings into clinical skills.
  4. Understand and place in context the social, economic and cultural issues of practice.
  5. Participate in and provide education and guidance patients, peers, students and leaders of the community.

2. Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Therapy/Patholog (BS, SLT/SLP)

Speech-Language Pathology professionals (Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), or informally speech therapists) specialize in communication disorders. The main components of speech production include: phonation, the process of sound production; resonance, opening and closing of the vocal folds; intonation, the variation of pitch; and voice, including aeromechanical components of respiration. The main components of language include: phonology, the manipulation of sound according to the rules of the language; morphology, the understanding and use of the minimal units of meaning; syntax, the grammar or principles and rules for constructing sentences in language; semantics, the interpretation of meaning from the signs or symbols of communication; and pragmatics, the social aspects of communication.

Scope of Speech Language Therapy:

The field of speech – language therapy has remained neglected here, so far. Our students graduating from the institute shall be the torch bearers of the profession in Pakistan and would be able to provide their valuable services in a multitude of settings, working collaboratively with ENT specialists, neurologists, pediatricians, psychologists, occupational and physical therapists in hospitals, and rehabilitation units. They could also work at schools or have their private practices.

3. Post Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy (PP-DPT)

What is a Transitional or Post Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy?

A Transitional or Post Professional Doctor of Physical therapy (t- DPT) or (PP-DPT) is a professional Doctorate, a higher level qualification after a four year BS.PT degree program, offering more intense clinical training and preparing graduates for higher-level work and better career outcomes. Graduates will possess the most current knowledge in the field of physical therapy.

The "transition" DPT is intended for practicing physical therapists. Program contents include clinical decision-making, physical therapy diagnosis and screening, diagnostic imaging, pharmacology, health care systems, business, and economics, outcomes measurement, patient/client management, clinical research, principles of evidence-based practice, professional issues, specific contents related to the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular-pulmonary and integumentary systems.

Why is it important for clinicians to acquire the t-DPT or PP-DPT?

The t-DPT or PPDPT is not required for the practice of physical therapy. Currently B.S, PT is the minimum requirement for an individual to be called physical therapist but since the physical therapy professions are growing nationally and internationally and there are new developments in the field of physical therapy, so due to those changes physical therapists will have to acquire higher qualification and new skills to face new challenges. There are several reasons for acquiring a DPT:

  • There is value in any educational experience that augments knowledge, skills, and behaviors in a way that will help better position a practitioner in a very uncertain health care environment.
  • The t-DPT program will provide practitioners with a degree-based opportunity to acquire new knowledge, skills, and behaviors and to do so with colleagues who bring a wealth of experience in the application of the science and art of physical therapy.
  • The DPT is the foundation of a doctoring profession; the doctorally-prepared practitioner will be perceived as possessing all of the rights, privileges, and obligations associated with being a member of a doctoring profession.

Prerequisites for t-DPT or PP-DPT program:

  • Four-year Bachelor of Science in Physical therapy (B.S, PT) or equivalent qualification from any HEC recognized university.
  • Transcripts from all professional and post professional degree programs.
  • Personal letter to state goals and objectives, why to have a DPT.

4. MS, Diagnostic Electro Neurophysiology (MS, DENP)

Diagnostic Electro-Neurophysiology encompasses the measurement of electrophysiological events in the central/peripheral nervous system and muscles in health and disease. Diagnostic Electro-Neurophysiology, also referred as Electro diagnostic Medicine, is a sub-specialty within Neurology wherein, varieties of techniques are used to diagnose specific types of Neurological and Neuromuscular Disorders. A range of diagnostic tests has been developed over the past 50 years and the principal investigations that are performed include, Electroencephalography (Recording the spontaneous activity of the brain), Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies (Recording the activity of neuromuscular system). Evoked Potential (Recording Electroencephalographic activity seen in response to activation of particular 'pathways such as Auditory, Visual and Somatosensory) and Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography (Recording Hemodynamics of the brain). Monitoring the functions of both the central and peripheral nervous systems, during operation and in the intensive care unit, is becoming an increasingly important application of these investigations.

The Scope of Diagnostic Electro-Neurophysiology

In the past, the Electro-Neurophysiologic procedures as an aid to neurology could not acquire much attention in Pakistan, because of inadequate facilities in hospitals. While, on the other hand the hospitals abroad, are using the procedures for the diagnosis, Research, intra-operative and intensive care monitoring. In the recent past the local and foreign qualified neurologists, have launched the latest Electro-Neurophysiology technology by realizing its need and demand for the Diagnosis of neurological and neuromuscular disorders. At present, very few hospitals in Pakistan are equipped with the latest Electro-Neurophysiology Technology. Therefore majority of patients with neurological and neuromuscular disorders remain deprived of proper diagnosis which put them to face the irreversible complications. In addition, qualified Neuro- physiologists /Neuromuscular Physiologists are not available. Therefore, it is necessary to launch a MS in Electro neurophysiology. So Physical Therapist and Physicians can get a separate specialty as like foreign scenario

Aims & Objectives

  1. To enhance the practicability, reliability and dependability of Electro-Neurophysiologic procedures.
  2. To explore the mystery of the nervous system to improve the patients' care.
  3. To create skilled professionals to meet the need of the country.

  • MBBS
  • DPT
  • BSPT
  • BSOT
  • BS.Physiology
  • M.Sc Physiology
  • PP-DPT

6. M. Phil, Post Graduate Diploma & Post Professional Clinical Residency in Sports Medicine & Manipulative Physical Therapy

Introduction to Sports Medicine & Manipulative Physical Therapy:

Sport Medicine & Manipulative Physical Therapy (SM& MPT) is a rapidly growing specialty that has the potential to impact upon all areas of Rehabilitation sciences. This world-class course is for physiotherapists seeking a specialist qualification in sports medicine & Manipulative Physical Therapy, compliant with international standards of practice. Sports Medicine & Manipulative Physical Therapy is becoming an increasingly popular method of treating athletes with musculoskeletal problems. The primary theoretic basis for the claimed beneficial results of manipulation is the restoration of motion with subsequent effects on ligamentous adhesions, muscle spasm, disk nutrition, and central nervous system endorphin systems. Research trials suggest that sports medicine & manipulation is beneficial in relieving or reducing the duration of acute low back pain and acute neck pain. It is evident that sports medicine & manipulative physical therapy enhance certain parameters of motion of the spine and peripheral joints.
